About Us

Bob Warman, a naval architect from Vancouver, British Columbia, started building the Camano in Delta, just south of Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1989 and completed about one a month until 1997 when the business was bought by Brad and Jaslyn Miller. They moved the production facility to a larger building in Delta and increased production. The Camano 31 was designed with the work boat styling of a fishing boat with the curving transom and flared bow. It can cruise efficiently at displacement speeds or semi-planing speeds from seven to twenty knots. The hulls are hand-laid solid fiberglass below the water line. A one-piece composite grid system is used in the hull to provide strength and rigidity. Honduras mahogany is sometimes used for the wood components in the interior giving the boat a warm and rich atmosphere. New wood interior choices will include Teak and other Asian woods.

In 2005, the Miller's introduced the new model 41 Camano, which extends the proven design and quality workmanship. It offer larger accommodations, improved performance and greater luxury to the cruising couple. By mid-2007, 268 Camano 31's had been built and 7 Camano 41's.

Early in 2008, Camano Yachts America acquired the Camano name, tooling and designs for the Camano Yachts. The managing team of Paul Burbach of Annapolis and First World Yachts Limited (the builder of Mariner Yachts International) are now building the Camano's in the US and expanding some production into Asia for the Pacific Rim market. First World presently produces the Seville series of Mariner Yachts, which includes a 37 Express, a 37 Sedan, a 37 Pilothouse, and a 38 Double Cabin Trawler.

Camano's are presently being assembled in Washington, and should be completed for the Winter boat shows. The new Camano's coming off the line will have the option of different hull colors and the standard ivory color will still be available. Steve Smith Sr., of First World Yachts, said the new company will follow the same construction methods used in the earlier Camanos and he said the boats' quality will be the same or even better. He noted that Camano boats have an excellent reputation over the years and that Camano Yachts America will only work on improving an already great design. There will be some more options for upgraded interiors, making the boat a little more comfortable and eye appealing. Steve said Camano Yachts America eventually plans to build Camanos on the East Coat as well as in the Northwest. New models on the horizon include a new 43 Camano Pilothouse which is just beginning production and a new 28 Express designed for light(or heavy) inshore or offshore fishing.
